Notes
Philadelphia Pa., 5¢ brown (No. 1), large margins to clear at bottom, handsome color with superb impression, cancelled by blue grid of Philadelphia on Jan. 2, 1850 folded letter from Philadelphia to Bellefonte Pa., no postmark, manuscript "Paid" at bottom, stamp "tied" by light embossing of grid on reverse; Very Fine.
Estimate $400-500
Expertization: 2002 P.F. Certificate.
Some students of the 1847 issue believe that as this stamp has a very fine impression, reminiscent of the first printing, and as this cover was used prior to the shipment of the fourth printing (made from cleaned plates) this is actually a first printing stamp from old stocks.
