We have examined the enclosed USA 1847 5c, tied blue grid on folded letter, postmarked Philadelphia AUG 30 used in 1859 to Princeton, NJ, submitted by Holbrooke Stamp Co., Inc., of which a photograph is attached, and are of the opinion it is a Scott 1a, dark brown, with a dot in S and a corner crease, genuinely used on cover.

James Sproat Green (July 21, 1792 — November 8, 1862) was an American lawyer who served as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey from 1835 to 1850. He was the father of New Jersey Governor Robert Stockton Green. James was a trustee of the College of New Jersey (later Princeton University) and a professor of jurisprudence from 1847 to 1855.
