The firm of Theodore Des Arts & George L Heuser were commission merchants at 78 Water Street. (1848 Doggett’s). Mr. Des Arts is also listed as a consul for the city-state of Hamburg. He served, in part, as a forwarding agent for foreign mail between NYC and Hamburg.
Charles Klugkist, an immigrant from Germany, became a US citizen on Mar 22, 1856.
