Destination: Paris, FRANCE
Description: Cover with a pair of 1847 Issue 5 cents stamps paying the 10c rate (over 300 miles) from Philadelphia to Boston, where it caught the Cunard steamer "Britannia," leaving on December 16 and arriving in Liverpool on December 30. GB debited France 10 decimes (1 franc) per the "Colonies Art. 13" marking on December 31, and the letter entered France at Boulogne on January 1. France collected 15 decimes (10 decimes due to GB plus 5 decimes from Boulogne to Paris). There are fewer than ten covers known to France with pairs of the 1847 5c stamp.
