Notes
Postmark: Mar 11, 1848
Origin: Cincinnati, Ohio, UNITED STATES
Destination: Xenia, Ohio, UNITED STATES
Description: Cincinnati, Ohio (Hamilton Cty. 1794-open), 5-cent 1847 on folded letter to Xenia, red Cincinnati 5 cent integral rate marking, stamp tied by 2 pen strokes. Having seen other covers, I'd have to say that the postal clerk was remarkably consistent in his cancelling.
The Alexander census lists 92 5 cent 1847 covers from Cincinnati, of which 25 pay 10 cent rates, leaving 67 solo 5 cent usages, including this one.
PhilaMercury Cover #15331
Alexander listed as 3/11/48
