Lot 4195 5c Red Brown (1). Pen cancel, matching "Due 5" in manuscript, faint strike of red "Spencerport N.Y. Jun. 16" circular datestamp struck on side flap, on 1851 folded letter to Buffalo N.Y., letter references an enclosure which would account for the 5c due for weight, stamp lifted and replaced, Fine and rare, Spencerport received no 1847 issue stamps, P.F. certificate no. 301894 no longer accompanies.

The 1851 Buffalo Commercial Advertiser Directory lists Elisha Y. Kneeland at 97 Clinton. He, and his wife Charlotte, joined the North Presbyterian Church on March 1, 1848.
ELISHA YALE KNEELAND, b @ Geneseo, NY 17 Jun 1810; m 1) Charlotte BALL @ Ogden, NY. After her death he m 2) Catharine F HOTCHKINS; she d 1 Dec
1896. He d 27 Oct 1891. He was expert mechanical engineer. Founded New York Novelty Company. Later settled in Buffalo, where he was engaged in the construction of elevators.
