Two 5c, one has large even margins, other has full margins to slightly in at lower left, used with 10c, three full margins to clear at top, beautiful early shades and fine impression, tied by red square grids, 5c stamps also tied by red "New-York Dec. 26" cds on buff c. 1847 cover to Farmington Me., negligible wear at edges, Very Fine, extremely rare cover bearing both 1847 stamps for the double over-300 miles rate - offered for the first time at auction

The CDS is double struck with a strong cancel and a vertically lower blurred one. The DEC above the crossed out addressee is clear and part of the strong New York circular cancel. The lower DEC through the top of the crossed out name is blurred. The 26 over the corrected name is somewhat clear and is part of the blurred lower cancel.
Letter addressed to the wife of Alexander Hamilton Abbot (1822-1899). At the time of this mailing, Alexander was married to his first wife, Margaret Mehitable Belcher (1823-1863) on 13 Sep. 1849, dating this cover as 1849 or later. (Find A Grave)
