Henry Barnes Curtis (1799-1885) and Charles H. Scribner were lawyers in Mount Vernon, Ohio. In 1848 Henry Curtis became president of the Knox County Branch of the State Bank of Ohio and served in office for almost 20 years. Afterwards, he became president of the Knox National Bank.
Charles Scribner (1826-97) left Mt Vernon in 1869 and entered into a partnership with Frank H, Hurd to form the firm of Scribner & Hurd in Toledo, Ohio. He was elected Ohio state senator in 1867 and was the author of the Treatise of the Law of Dower and was a member of the Convention to revise the Constitution of Ohio in 1873.
