Letter addressed to Henry Herman Epping (1821-1904), He was born in Oldenburg, Germany, came to New York in 1837 and moved to Columbus, Georgia in 1841. He worked as a clerk in a drug store before becoming a partner in the firm of Winter & Epping. In 1848 he sold out his share and became a teller at the Bank of Brunswick in Columbus. In 1850 the name of the bank was changed to the Union Bank of Augusta and Henry ran the Columbus office from 1851 to 1864. He then ran a private bank until 1866 when he became President of the Chatahoochie National bank in Columbus. He was married to Isabella Robertson (1825-1881) of Aberbrothie, Scotland and they had six children.
