Lot 72 10c Black (2). Large margins except at bottom left where a bit close but clear, sharp proof-like impression, tied by red square grid, matching "New-York 10 cts. 14 Jul." (1847) integral-rate circular datestamp on folded cover to Louisville Ky., faint pressed-out vertical file fold far from stamp and markings
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. THIS IS THE FOURTH EARLIEST RECORDED DATE OF USAGE OF THE 10-CENT 1847 STAMP. AN ATTRACTIVE AND RARE EARLY USAGE.
The three earlier usages recorded are: 1) the famous July 2nd cover, 2) July 9 from New York to Galena Ill. (realized $5,750 in our Sale 799), and 3) July 10 usage from the same correspondence as the cover offered here (realized $6,500 in our Sale 814). Two other cover are also known used on July 14
