1847 5c red brown Franklin (Scott #1) single nicely tied by a red square grid cancel on cover sent from New York City to attorney James Dexter at the "office corner of State & N. Pearl street" in Albany, New York. matching red December (inverted in cancel) 22, New York circular date stamp cancel at right. The stamp exhibits a distinct sharp color and large margins all around. A minor file fold affects stamp but it does not greatly detract from this very fine and newly discovered piece of 1847 Issue postal history.
