Notes
1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott No. 1). Ample to large margins, rich color and superb impression from an early printing, tied by uncommon 7-bar red grid of New York on buff envelope to Cooperstown with G.A. Mills' 2¢ black on green, glazed (109L1), four margins, uncancelled as nearly always, placed at upper right corner, Oct. 9th c.d.s. opposite local; cover with light horizontal bend not affecting either stamp, Very Fine, a great 1847/local combination rarity.1997 PFC declines opinion as to whether the local stamp originated but we feel strongly that it belongs. Estimate $5,000-7,500
