1847 5c red brown Franklin (Scott #1) right sheet margin single tied by red grid cancel on cover sent from New York to Suffield, Connecticut. Accompanying red August 19, New York circular datestamp cancel at right. Stamp has three margins, in at left. Small nick in stamp at top right. The 5-cent stamp pays the postage for a letter weighing 1/2-ounce or less and traveling under 300 miles. A very fine sheet margin 5-cent stamp tied by red grid cancels on cover.
