Notes
1847, 5¢ red brown (Scott No. 1). Two singles, mostly large margins except bottom stamp clear at bottom right, each tied by red square grids, matching "New-York Mar. 16" c.d.s. on undated folded cover with U.S. Mail, New York, 1¢ black on buff (6LB11) mostly large margins, uncancelled at upper right, to Washington, D.C., small manuscript check mark near top, Very Fine with 1996 P.F. Certificate declining opinion on the use of the carrier; in our opinion the stamp originated on this cover, and therefore the cover would be an 1850 use. Estimate $1,000-1,500 .
