Notes
Lot 14 1, 5c Red Brown, a tightly margined single tied to one of the very few known 1847 covers with a hotel marking, the small ladies cover has been reduced at right, is a bit soiled, and has several edge tears, however the red oval New York / Hotel / J B. Monnot hotel handstamp is clearly struck at bottom left; the stamp, which has a slight bit of age staining, is tied by a red grid, and the matching New York FEB 7 cds appears at top right, addressed to Philadelphia; despite the aforementioned flaws this is still an extraordinarily rare 1847 cover.
