Postmark: Jun 20, 1851
Origin: New York, New York, UNITED STATES
Destination: Delhi, New York, UNITED STATES
Description: #1d, tied by red grid with matching NYC CDS. On printed corner card with "United States Life Insurance Co. / 27 Wall Street, New-York." With original enclosure (only part is shown) with matching letterhead. The stamp shade is "brown orange" but that doesn't show up well on the scan and I didn't attempt to adjust the color. Of the 2,668 1847 covers from NYC that are listed in Alexander, approximately 15 have a printed corner card of any kind and, of those, maybe 5 or 6 are printed on the front (as opposed to the top backflap). Of this last group, perhaps 1 or 2 (other than this unlisted cover) were used with the 5 cent value. This is, of course, surprising since NYC had no shortage of commercial enterprises.
