Notes
Lot 72 5c Brown (1), large margins including full sheet margin at right, small margin faults and pressed out file crease, tied New York red square grid cancel on a850 folded letter, Fine
Robert J Kaufmann sale 73 June 29, 1991 realized 325 (image)
Lot 10 1847 5c red brown on Sept 23rd 1850 cover from New York to Providence, Rhode Island
W E Lee Net Price Sale
Hart information card says this cover may duplicate another in the census but I found no other match.
From the Thomas J Alexander Papers in the APRL
Alexander listed as 9/23/50
Several letters in the census are addressed to Washington Hunt, Comptroller in Albany, NY and former US Congressman. The cut off letters in the image below Hunt’s name may well be “Comptroller”. Only the Lee sale description mentions Providence as a destination and the date ties the two auction listings together. Was this cover really sent to Providence?
