Lot 95 5c Red Brown (1), ample to large margins, dirty plate impression, tied by red square grid and lightened pen cancel on 1848 folded letter to Castleton Vt., matching New York Oct 11 cds, ms ford and to pay (there is a faint ˜5' above next to stamp), light Castleton Vt cds in black redirecting to East Hampton Mass, letter indicates the writer wasn't sure the addressee had arrived in Vermont, and has sent a copy of this letter to East Hampton. Unique with this Vermont postmark and a rare example of contents documenting the reasons for forwarding.
