Letter addressed to Thatcher Magoun & Son (Thatcher jr.), located at 66 State Street in Boston (1848 Boston City Directory). Thatcher Magoun (1775-1856) was a ship builder from Medford, Mass. In 1838 he became a merchant, along with his son (1808-1853), with businesses in Boston & Medford and traded goods from all over the world. They ran a fleet of many ships and traded with New York, New Orleans, the Caribbean, Europe, San Francisco, Russia and China.
