Notes
U.S. 1847 Issue 10 cents Washington, Scott #2 on Cover from Lockport, New York to New York, NY. Dated May 12, 1848. Blue Lockport circular cancellation not touching stamp, but stamp is pen cancelled and tied to cover by cross hatching on upper left of cover with "Paid" on upper right corner. The stamp looks exceptional except for the minor detail of missing a small piece of the UR corner of the stamp 3mm x 2mm. The interesting thing is that the stamp was damaged before it was used on cover, since the pen cancel goes through the damaged area on the cover as evidence. Unfortunate, but still collectible. The letter discusses a mundane legal transaction.
