Letter addressed to George A. Yates (1818-1900), was the son of Dr. William Yates (1767-1857), English baron, colleague of Edward Jenner (discover of smallpox vaccine). Dr Yates introduced the vaccine to America when he came to Philadelphia in 1799 and later settled in Morris, becoming a gentleman farmer and practicing physician. George A. Yates was a Captain in the 251st Regiment of the New York State Militia, circa 1845-1846.
