1 1847 5¢ brown ON TURNED CVR (BATH, N.Y. HSP5) FROM ELMIRA, N.Y. TO BATH, N.Y.
AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT
It Is A Genuine Usage
Alexander listed as 8/21/49
September 1849 stampless folded letter from Bath to Elmira NY where it was answered on the original letter, refolded, a stamp applied, and sent back to Bath. The 5c stamp was cancelled with two strikes of red ˜5'.
Gordon Eubanks exhibit
[This explanation is confused by the dates. The stampless cover from Bath to Elmira is postmarked Sept 25. The Elmira postmark appears to be Sept 21. Either the letter traveled in the opposite directions or the date of the Elmira postmark is incorrect (1 used instead of 7?). The dateline on the letter may resolve this issue.]
