December 6th, 1850. Cazanovia, NY to Tioga, NY. Scott #1. Famous clockmaker Orlando Blanchard of Cazanovia sends a personal explanation as to why the Town Clock Bell for Tioga is a little behind in delivery. In the course of his explanation, we learn a little about what deliveries are taking place to other New York towns and the key role that the Postmaster plays in getting this information to the Town Selectmen. Very legible. The Scott #1 is a very wide-margined stamp. (Four.) A nice historic cover with our nation's first stamp. Comes with a PSE Certificate.
