2. Attorney James Dexter wrote to Mr. James Bell on January 18, 1849, requesting a receipt for taxes and commissions from rental property involved in the settlement of the Smith estate. Mr. Bell signed the receipt, turned the cover, and returned the receipt to Mr. Dexter. The 5c stamp paid the postage to Amsterdam, NY. The return to Albany, NY was sent as an unpaid stampless letter.
