Lot 62 5c brown, two singles, large margins, extremely fine, artistically affixed overlapping each other in upper left corner of small neat envelope to Boston, Mass, tied by red St. Louis Mo 10 postmark. A beautiful and very desirable cover. Signed Ashbrook

Addressed to Boston, this cover was mailed in 1849, consistent with the other letters in the correspondence mailed from Charles Bailey Sawyer in St. Louis and addressed to 12 Lynde Street.
Another attempt at dating (3rd image) -
The 7 has a small s erif at the upper left, a crossbar rising at about 30 deg to Ben's chin, a curved line down to his neck, and then a straight line into his white shirt. This line is extended a mm or so by the second image (a kiss image because OCT is not doubled). You do have to stare at the image for a few seconds to see the 7, due to the ink splatter in the area. The 7 is almost reversed imaged, with the edges a bit darker than the center of the digit.
