I believe the last name is Dey, not Deg. The last letter in the name looks exactly like the 5th letter in the street name, which is Vesey.
The 1848 edition of Doggett’s NYC directory lists Lavinia A Dey, widow of Rev. Richard V. at 36 Vesey Street.
Rev. Richard Varick Dey (1801-1837) was married to Lavinia Agnes Scott (1805-1886). One genealogy site lists two children [Richard Varick Dey (1835-1925) and Anthony Dey (1829-1912)] while another (Ancestry.com) lists 4 [Anthony, Mary Ladlie Dey (1824-1905), the recipient of this letter.
