The 1849 edition of Doggett’s lists Dr. Alexander Eddy Hosack (1805-1871) at 101 Franklin Street in NYC. He authored many books involving medical treatments. His father, David Hosack (1769-1835), was a very famous physician who tended to the wound of Alexander Hamilton after his duel with Aaron Burr.
Dr. Alexander Hosack’s sister, Mary (1800-1872), was married to Jacob Harvey (1797-1848) of NYC. Jacob had a brother, William Henry Harvey (1811-1866), a world renowned botanist, who may have written this letter (based on endorsement at left).
