Notes
1847, 10¢ black (No. 2), margins all round except barely touched at top left, intense shade and superb impression, tied by pen cancels, red grids and matching "Boston 10cts 21 Jun." c.d.s. on undated folded cover to "Clayville near Utica N York", manuscript "Missent" with oval "Utica N.Y. Jun." datestamp in blue with ornaments, additional red "Lewiston N.Y. Jun. 24" c.d.s., the latter apparently a receiving postmark though there is no indication of charges; bottom flap removed, Very Fine usage with three different style datestamps on one cover. Estimate $750-1,000
As the Clayville Post Office opened in 1849, and the oval Utica N.Y. in blue with ornaments, to our knowledge, was not used after 1849, this would have to be an 1849 issue.
