5c 1847 on a letter sent from Boston to Liverpool aboard the Cunard steamer Asia. The sender evidently applied the adhesive and then was told that unless he paid the remaining 19c in cash, it would have to go as a fully unpaid letter, per the 1848 US-US treaty. The cash was paid and the letter struck with the red "19" accountancy marking, indicting that 19c was owed to the UK. The only known example of the 5c 1847 on a mixed payment letter sent under the Treaty.
