Letter addressed to Frederick Milton Ballou (b in Cumberland RI June 21, 1818
Waterford (Blackstone), Mass.
Frederick M. Ballou & Co. commenced here in 1848. They occupy a mill running 10 sets of woolen machinery; employing 200 persons. They consume 1,500 pounds of wool per day, the annual production being 350,000 yards fancy cassimeres, &c. The power is furnished by two Fall River 9 and 5 ft. turbine wheels, the fall being 103 feet. They run 52 looms. This company is F. M. Ballon, Bailey W. Evans, Caleb and Geo. E. Seagrave.
Frederick mostly served as a bookkeeper in the wool business. From 1850 to 1850 he was a director of the Worcester County Bank in Blackstone and also the Producers Bank in Woonsocket, RI. In 1856 he became director of the Cheshire County Bank in Keene, NH. Later he became involved with city and state politics in Providence, RI.
