Alexander listed as 4/8/50 addressed to Portland Me
Smith, Hersey & Co. were wholesale grocers and commission merchants who operated a store in Portland, Maine. The principal operators were St. John Smith and Theophilus C. Hersey. Mr. Smith sold out to Jonathan Hartwell Fletcher and the firm changed its name to Hersey, Fletcher & Co., and, eventually simply Fletcher & Co.
North Anson, Me. separated from Anson in 1845 and rejoined it in 1855.
