A new postal history book entitled “Letter Communications Through the Blockades of North America 1774 to 1865” has just been completed by Steven C. Walske, a widely-published postal historian.
The book examines the communications systems that evolved to transport mail through four blockades of North America from 1774 to 1865. The detailed history is the baseline and is lavishly illustrated by covers to reinforce the narrative. Of particular interest to postal historians are the six appendices, which include blockade runner sailing tables and a comprehensive census of Civil War blockade-run covers.
