Letter written by Edward Artemas Raymond (1826-1873), attorney and District Attorney, born in Canandaigua, NY and died in Rochester, NY.
Letter addressed to Miss Mary Ann Howes (c. 1828-?). Mary Ann was the daughter of Samuel Alfred Howes and Cornelia Raymond. She was the sister of Robert Raymond, Edward’s father, making Mary Ann Howes a cousin of Edward Artemas Raymond. Samuel, originally from Putnam County, NY (north of NYC in the Hudson Valley) moved to Canandaigua after marrying Cornelia and stayed there, farming, until 1855 when he moved to Minnesota.
