Siegel sale 587 lot 489 realized 800 Extensive doubling evident throughout Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 – June 8, 1845) was the seventh President of the United States (1829–37). In 1804, he acquired the Hermitage, a 640-acre plantation in Davidson County, near Nashville. Jackson later added 360 acres to the plantation, which eventually grew to 1,050 acres. The primary crop was cotton. He was elected major general of the Tennessee militia in 1802. He was a lawyer and member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, representing the State of Tennessee, prior to being elected President in 1828. After leaving the Presidency in 1837, he retired to the Hermitage but stayed active in politics in the Democratic Party behind the scenes. |
