| Notes | 3c Black on green glazed paper CDS DEC 2 (1842) 9 O'clock Robert A. Siegel sale 766 lot 642 realized 1150 notes 1842 year date from docket. Illustrated in the Kapiloff exhibit (courtesy of Richard C. Frajola) which notes the letter was written on Nov 28, 1842 and mailed on Dec 2, 1842. Also, this is the EKU of the green paper stamp. Illustrated as Figure 1 in Calvet Hahn's The Beginnings of Adhesive Postage in the US Part 6 (The Penny Post Vol 9, No 1, Jan 2001, p44) Samuel Jones Mumford was a lawyer at 9 Nassau Street (1843 Doggett’s). There are two listings for Thomas Palmer. One lived at 81 Duane Street (no occupation listed) and Thomas H Palmer was a printer at 9 Spruce Street. |
