Is this a fake, with the stamp added to an otherwise stampless cover? ms rated 25 cents for postage to Missouri. CDS New York Oct 28 Robert A. Siegel sale 1101 lot 508, collection of 28 covers, describes this as a 40L1. ms date 1842 at lower left and herein lies the problem. The lot description lists this as a 40L1 but the ms year date of 1842, if correct, should change this Oct 28th cover to 6LB1 since it was mailed after Aug 16, 1842 when the post came under the US Post Office.
