Lot 5 #9X1e, New York, N.Y. 5c Black Postmaster Provisional, without signature, well tied by large "New York / 5" c.d.s. in red on 1846 (Mar. 31) letter sheet to Lyon, France (Apr. 19), sent via London (Apr. 15) with manuscript "p. Str. Hibernia", showing framed "Colonies / & Art. 13" h.s. in red adjacent, stamp has defective margin at top and light overall toning, nevertheless an attractive and scarce usage to an overseas destination.
