Lot 7 9X1, New York, NY 5c Black Postmaster Provisional, signed ACM connected, mostly large margins to just touching at lower left, vivid color and a razor-sharp impression, being one of only 17 recorded usages from Boston, with red Boston Mass. town of origin cds at right and ms Post Paid at bottom left, tied to Howland & Aspinwall correspondence folded cover by red Paid in arc applied on arrival in New York, with a second matching strike over the Boston date stamp, part of the address panel cut away (as is typical of this correspondence) and replaced with a different recipient’s name and bit of non-matching postmark, otherwise nearly very fine, a rare and desirable franking of this Postmaster Provisional used outside of New York City.
