NY Provisional, ACM connected, tied by blue pen cancel, red PAID in arc and OCT 1 (1846) NEW YORK cds on folded letter to Albany, NY
Letter endorsed Platt Adams, Oct 1, 1846 on reverse.
Letter datelined New York Oct 1, 1846 and addressed to W. W. Van Zandt. Contents refer to sale of $2000 of Aster Stock that was payable to the NY State Bank in Albany and was requesting payment. A note on the bottom indicates that a check for $25 was put in the mail on Oct 2nd, payable to Platt Adams.
William Wirt Van Zandt (1806-1871) is listed at 85 Bleecker Street in Albany NY. He was the chief clerk in the Free Bank Dept. in the NY State Government.
Platt Adams Is listed as a banker at 64 Wall Street in NYC (1847 Doggett’s)
Note extraneous red ink on cds makes the 1 appear as a 7 but a close up reveals the top of the 1 emerging from the excess ink.
