Horatio Potter (February 9, 1802 – January 2, 1887), was an educator and the sixth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Horatio went to Union College, Schenectady, New York and graduated in 1826 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation, Horatio Potter followed his older brother Alonzo into the Episcopal Church. He was confirmed by Bishop John Henry Hobart at St. Thomas' Church in New York and began studying for holy orders. After ordained in 1827 he became a priest in 1828 at Trinity Church in Saco, Maine. He taught mathematics and natural philosophy at Washington College in Hartford, Conn. (1828-1833). From 1833 to 1854 he served as rector at St. Peter’s Church in Albany, NY. From 1854 to 1887 he was Bishop of New York.
