Positions 3-4, horizontal pair, right stamp with double transfer, left stamp “ACM” connected, right stamp “AC M”, large margins all around, without pen cancel, tied by red “Paid” in arc cancels on folded 1846 accounts payable to London, England and forwarded to Trieste, Italy, sender’s directive “p Steamer Hibernia via Boston & Halifax” at lower left, red Bolougne double-circle datestamp also ties stamps, London transit datestamp (Apr. 16) and receiving datestamp (Apr. 24, 1846) on back, manuscript “2/-” two shillings rate crossed out and re-rated in German currency, light file folds do not affect stamps, left stamp tiny tear at bottom, Very Fine appearance, a rare use of the New York Postmaster’s Provisional on cover to London and forwarded to Trieste, especially desirable with the pair showing two different styles of initials
