Lot 59 1845: New York Postmaster's 5 c. black, good even margins all round, signed "A.C.M." unconnected in magenta ink, used on 1845 entire letter to Providence cancelled by blue manuscript pen strokes with curved PAID and 'New York / 5 Cts.' datestamp (Sept 29) in red alongside. Signed A. Diena. Cert. Sorani (1986).

Hudson & Baker were importers of wines and liquors. Founded in 1838, they were succeeded by Baker & Wesson in 1847 and by Mr. Wesson alone in 1857 (History of the State of Rhode Island by Albert Wright in 1878).
The 1844 Providence city directory lists Sterry Baker and Horatio G. Hudson (of Hudson & Baker) as grocers at 18 Market Street,
