Letter addressed to Cornelius & Son, 181 Cherry Street in Philadelphia. They were lamp manufacturers according to the 1845 edition of McElroy’s Philadelphia city directory. The company was founded in 1827 by Christian Cornelius (-1852), who emigrated from Amsterdam in 1783. His son was Robert Cornelius (1809-1893) and is listed by McElroy’s as being in the lamp business in 1846.
