Baltimore Md., 5c Black (3X1). Position 10, ample to large margins with full framelines on two sides, without usual pen cancellation, tied by bold strike of blue "Baltimore Md. Mar. 28" circular datestamp on bright fresh cover to Port Tobacco Md., matching "Paid" and "5" in circle handstamps, stamp originally affixed with bottom margin slightly folded underneath, it was removed to press out the crease and seal a small tear and then reaffixed to the cover (from which it originates)
VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT BALTIMORE PROVISIONAL ON WHITE PAPER. VERY FEW ARE KNOWN WITH THE STAMP TIED SOLELY BY THE TOWN DATESTAMP.
Possibly No. 23 in Hayes census, where it may be incorrectly described as Jan. 28 (1847) circular datestamp. Ex Ferrary and Eno. With 2001 P.F. certificate

It Is A Genuine Usage, But THE STAMP HAS BEEN REMOVED TO PRESS OUT A CREASE AND SEAL A TEAR AT BOTTOM, AND REPLACED ON THIS COVER OF ORIGIN.
