Lot 278 Baltimore Md.1846 5c, black on white. Scott 3, a very fine copy of this rare Provisional (adhesive) on the entire envelope, addressed to Port Tobacco, Maryland. the stamp is lightly pen-cancelled and thus tied to the cover. On the envelope are the usual postmarks in blue, Paid 5 (in an oval) and the town postmark Baltimore Md., October 18. The stamp shows the frame line at left as well as traces at the top, a very fine example of this great rarity, cat $1000 on cover
