The clothing mill, about a half mile west of the village, was started in 1814 by James Blossom. After several changes of ownership, the mill was acquired by Samuel Culver and Benjamin Lewis, Jr. in 1834. In 1843, James Lamb bought Samuel Culver’s interest and the name was changed to Lewis & Lamb. William Goodrich bought Lamb’s interest in 18xx and, after a year in business, sold out his share to Lewis, who continued in business alone until his son Rodney M. Lewis joined him 1866.
