Lot 1146 1847, 5¢ red brown. Four margins, just tied by partial blue circular grid cancel, matching "Mobile Ala. Dec " cds on gray Dec. 15, 1849 New Orleans printed prices current with written letter to Trieste, Austria, endorsed "via Ostend" at top and "via New York, p. steamer 26 Decb." at bottom, actually carried on Cunard Line Cambria from Boston Jan. 9th to Liverpool arriving Jan. 22nd, London (1.22) transit backstamp and magenta "1/4" 1s4d debit rating, reverse with blurry Aachen black "America per England" (VDL 112) framed handstamp and blue ms. "26/20" debit rating, red Trieste (1.30) arrival backstamp and with magenta "12" above existing rating totaled to "58" Austrian kr. due; letter bleed through, Very Fine and rare transatlantic use.
