PSE 1226346 (8/20/2010) it is a genuine usage on a folded letter to Cambridge, Mass. with a blue Baltimore, Md. c.d.s cancel dated Jan 20 (1851) and tied by red grid cancels, the letter sheet with a small hole at the lower right not effecting the stamp. (image)

J. Smith Homans Jr. (1833-1879) was an American publisher and author active in the mid-19th century, particularly known for his work in financial and commercial literature. In 1850, his father, J. Smith Homans Sr., began publishing the Bankers' Magazine in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The younger Homans is most frequently cited for his collaborative work with his father, specifically the comprehensive reference title "A Cyclopedia of Commerce and Commercial Navigation".
