Sc 1 5c Franklin, cut in at left and top, tied by pen stroke cancels on envelope from Cincinnati Ohio to Zanesville, Ohio. Sept 21 (1949) cds consistent with endorsement of Sept 20 /49 Thursday evening at left.
Note inside flap reads “All well. Cheerily “My One”. Forever, Sam.

Letter sent in care of Julia’s cousin, Ebenezer Buckingham (1829-1912).
Letter sent to Julia Anna Buckingham (1829-1911), wife of Samuel S. Cox (1824-1889), lawyer, US Congressman (1857-65) and US Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. Both Julia and Samuel were from Zanesville, Ohio. They married on Oct 9, 1849.
Clearly, this letter was written by Samuel Cox in Cincinnati to his fiancé Julia Buckingham 2 ½ weeks before their wedding. The letter, #261 in their correspondence, was written on Thursday evening and mailed the following day.
