Letter addressed to Mrs. James P. Halliburton in Portsmouth, NH. It is datelined New York March 1, 1850 and signed E. & P. Compton.
James Pierrepont Halliburton (1824-1849), of Portsmouth, N. H., was married to Susan Manning Hamilton Peters (1830-1898), according to several sites. [Ancestry.com lists her as being born in 1828 in New York City]. Susan lived at 25 Islington Street in Portsmouth and married George Wallis Haven (1808-1895) after James’ death.
The letter writer is not listed in the 1851 edition of Doggett & Rode’s NY City directory.
